Foundation of the brand FUNK.
1993
Design and distribution of very unique and spectacular cases.
1994
Design and development of the first collection FUNKsunglasses;
17 extremely conspicuous models with silicon rubber coating
was born. FUNK was the pioneer in this kind of coating.
1995
Introduction of the first collection FUNKsunglasses at certain
fairs, such as Interjeans in Cologne, 40° in London and
Optical in Cologne. The success was overwhelming in the target
group. But the collection with models like the “mask”
also earned incomprehension from the more traditional fair
visitors.
1996
Expansion of the distribution in Germany and foundation of
its own distribution network in Austria and Switzerland. The
collection was exhibited at the ISPO in Munich; which was
the start of a successful focused marketing in the trend sport
sector. Also the first of the meanwhile legendary FUNK-ISPO-
Party’s took place. (You should not miss, when you will
be in Munich for the ISPO!)
1997
Design and presentation of the second collection FUNKsunglasses.
The stuff is not longer silicon coated, more sportive and
“little bit more normal”. With this collection
FUNKsunglasses also convinced the opticians. In the same time
FUNK found distribution partners in Sweden, Norway, Finland
and Denmark.
1998
The third generation of FUNKsunglasses was born. Pilot styles
or sunglasses with gradient colours are the highlights of
this collection, including 15 new Styles. There were expansions
to international distribution channels to Japan and Russia.
1999
FUNK presents the first FUNKgoggles.
2000
FUNKsunglasses are established as a design brand. With two
collections each year, FUNK is a well-known brand at the international
market. And the FUNK family is still growing with distribution
partners in New Zeeland, Australia, Taiwan and Singapore.
2001
Introduction of the first optical collection FUNK royal optics.
The limited, exclusive, handcrafted collection is made of
acetate and surprises with spectacular feather-hinge function.
FUNK now is also available in Italy, Portugal and Mexico.
2002
FUNKequipment – the opinionated bags’ collection
– is born and divides the customers into 2 camps: Lover
& Hater. The collection has a little secret and you should
see it in the mirror. FUNKfans know. In February the famous
FUNK-party gets the official ISPO-party (the worlds biggest
sports fair) and like every time about 2500 people celebrates
this.
2003
FUNK starts on the other hand with extreme styles (like HORNY,
SCUM, PERVERT) and very sporty and good fitting glasses (SPECTER,
HECK). On the ISPO show in August FUNK was proud to present
the first shot of the extremely provocative shirt collection
of FUNKwear. In some countries FUNK is not allowed to export
it… Also the first styles for kids were presented. These
are “shrunken” adult glasses in unobtrusive colours.
The kids love them.
FUNKsunglasses is and will be the brand for young and fashionable
opinion leaders. Through innovative design and material, FUNK
continues to set trends ahead of its competition. The future
promises many more exciting collections and surprises from
FUNK.
2004
FUNK launch sunglasses into the UK via www.funksunglasses.com
and through specialist shops.
